In addition to the exhibitors, there will be demonstrations and displays by the two local gem and mineral societies. The Peninsula Gem & Mineral Society will offer for sale a wide selection of geodes which they will cut on site. PGMS is a family-oriented gem and mineral club open to all interested in gem and mineral exploration and identification as well as stone cutting, wire-wrapping and jewelry design. The Tidewater Gem & Mineral Society will also be present with displays and demonstrations, and club member Brooks Britt will share his collection of agates. This display of Montana agates won Best of Show at the Denver show. TGMS also welcomes new members.
“We are excited to continue our 2015 season in Virginia Beach,” Westbrook said. “Many of our vendors have recently returned from a buying trip in Tucson, Arizona where they found lots of gorgeous and exciting gems, rocks, jewelry, gift items and more. These great finds will be available at the Virginia Beach show. There will be a wonderful selection of fantastic merchandise.”
“The Virginia Beach Convention Center is conveniently located at the end of Interstate 264 East at 1000 19th Street, just a few blocks from the Oceanfront[JW1] .” said Ellen White, Westbrook’s partner. “There are restaurants too numerous to mention offering just about any type of fare imaginable at the Oceanfront and at nearby Hilltop. Seafood is a favorite for many in this area, but there are many other choices including Italian, Japanese, Chinese, and Indian, as well as casual and upscale steak houses.”
It’s a little early in the season for beach activities – swimming, surfing, etc. However, there are many other attractions in Virginia Beach. Tidewater is home to many military families, and it is therefore fitting that the Tidewater Veteran’s Memorial is located in Virginia Beach – in fact, directly across the street from the convention center. Also nearby is the historic Old Coast Guard Station. The Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center, located across the Rudee Inlet Bridge, offers numerous “hands-on” exhibits, and is fun and educational for children as well as adults. Other points of interest include First Landing State Park and Cape Henry Lighthouse.
The remainder of the 2015 Treasures of the Earth show schedule will include the following events in the Mid-Atlantic region.
